For our cover story in June, Orson Liyu – who made a name for himself as a model, makeup artist, stylist and fashion designer in the 1990s – has recently been making waves as an interior designer and floral designer.

The vibrant interiors of Thai restaurant Niyom 26 in Petaling Jaya were designed by Liyu and he has been busy undertaking event styling and interior design for various companies, events and campaigns. Born in Johor, Liyu tells us what sparked his interest in design when he was young and how a modelling gig for a bridal shop opened up a whole new world for him.

It was his fascination with elegant wedding gowns featured in foreign magazines that led him toward a fashion design career, where he is known for creating beautiful couture gowns. While his growing-up years are filled with entertaining anecdotes of his experiences, Liyu also talks fondly about his family and the powerful lessons he has learned from his parents.
