1. Subscription

The Star Bundle is a subscription package consisting of The Star newspaper, The Star ePaper and 4 Regional ePapers. The Star ePaper is a digital replica of The Star newspaper and the 4 Regional ePapers are The Jakarta Post, The Nation and The Philippine Daily Inquirer and China Daily Asia Weekly. The subscription entitles you to delivery notes which you must use to redeem The Star newspaper.

You will be provided with one user account to access to The Star ePaper and the 4 Regional ePapers.

The subscription is not transferable to any third party and the delivery notes for The Star newspaper must be used concurrently with The Star ePaper by the same subscriber.

2. Availability

The Star Bundle is available at the prevailing prices whereby the delivery address for The Star newspaper must be a Malaysian address.

Subscribers with Sabah delivery addresses must subscribe with the Sabah regional subscription package for newspaper delivery.
We reserve the absolute right to: –

  • Change our prices and/or withdraw the subscription package at any time, without the need to inform you prior to such a change and/or withdrawal, as the case may be.
  • Upgrade or remove any of the features of The Star ePaper. No refund or discount will be given to you should you decide not to take up any of the upgraded features or upon the removal of any of the existing features of The Star ePaper.
  • Withdraw any section(s)/title(s)/page(s) of The Star newspaper and The Star ePaper in the bundle subscription at any time as we deem fit without prior notification. No refund or discount will be available in the event of such withdrawal.

Subscription that has been paid in full shall not be affected by the change unless due to our inability to fulfill our subscription offer or under exceptional conditions not within our reasonable control. In these cases, the provision under section 7 shall apply.

3. Payment and Processing

You can subscribe The Star Bundle from Newsstand  or, simply fill up a subscription form which is  available at our main and regional offices. To facilitate the subscription, you undertake to provide complete and accurate information required by us.

For subscription through Newsstand, you can pay by credit card, e-banking or e-wallet.

For subscription using the form, you can pay by cash, credit card or cheque made payable to STAR MEDIA GROUP BERHAD. Your payment shall be construed as an offer to purchase The Star Bundle. The sale of the subscription is deemed completed and accepted once your subscription together with payment is successfully processed.

Upon successful processing of your subscription, we will notify you by letter and email which will specify your subscription period (i.e. commencement date and expiry date). 4. Delivery Note

Subject to Paragraph 5 hereof, we will assign our appointed newspaper vendor to deliver The Star newspaper to you. We will send all 12pcs of the monthly delivery note(s) to you within three (3) weeks from the commencement date of your newspaper delivery. The delivery note shall be invalid upon the expiration of the validity period specified in the said delivery note(s). This delivery note system is only applicable to subscribers in Peninsular Malaysia.

Lost and/or misplaced delivery note(s) must be informed to us in writing. An administrative fee of RM20 will be charge for Credit Note to your vendor and an administrative fee of RM50 will be charged if you request for replacement delivery note(s).

5. Delivery

5.1. The Star newspaper

  • Please allow 10 working days for us to process your subscription.
  • Delivery of the newspaper to new subscribers shall commence from the first day of the month, depending on the date when your form is received by The Star. For example, if your subscription form is received before/on 15 June, you will receive The Star newspaper from 1 July; if your subscription form is received after 15 June, you will receive The Star newspaper from 1 August.
  • It shall be deemed that the newspapers have been duly delivered to you if there is no report of any losses within two (2) working days from commencement date of delivery.
  • You shall be required to pay a monthly delivery fee to your appointed vendor. Each fee is for one (1) subscription only (individual/ corporate). In the event that papers are delivered for more than one subscription at the same delivery fees, the delivery charges are subject to an amount agreed upon by yourself and the delivering vendor.

(A) RM2 to RM10 per month in Peninsular Malaysia; and
(B) RM5 to RM15 per month in Sarawak and Sabah.

  • Request for a change of delivery address shall be subjected to the approval of The Star. You shall submit your request in writing stating your reason(s) for the change of address.
  • Once your request is accepted, we will inform you in writing and the delivery of the newspaper to the new address will take effect from the 1st day of the following month.
    In relation to the subscription in bulk by a corporate subscriber, we will only deliver The Star newspaper to one of the corporate addresses provided in the subscription form.

5.2. The Star ePaper

  • The Star ePaper is operated by NewspaperDirect, Inc. You can start accessing ePaper once your ePaper account has been successfully set up and you will receive the ePaper password within 3 working days after we have completed processing your subscription and payment.

6. Renewal 

You may opt for auto-renewal where your subscription is renewed on a yearly basis. This will save you a lot of effort and hassle. To learn more about auto-renewal, click here.

The Star Bundle subscription is not automatically renewed unless you have opted for auto-renewal. We will send you two renewal notices by post and e-mail, 2 months and 1 month respectively and SMS on the last week prior to your subscription’s expiry date. We will advise you of the changes to the subscription plan, if any, in the renewal notice.

6.1 The Star Bundle

6.1.1 Promotion

  • You may take up the following Promotion prior to the end of your current The Star Bundle subscription: –

    1. One (1) year of The Star newspaper and ePaper (361 issues includes 4 Regional ePapers i.e. The Jakarta Post, The Nation and The Philippine Daily Inquirer and China Daily Asia Weekly) at Ringgit Malaysia Two Hundred Sixty (RM260.00) only.
    2. Two (2) years of The Star newspaper, and ePaper (722 issues includes 4 Regional ePapers i.e. The Jakarta Post, The Nation and The Philippine Daily Inquirer and China Daily Asia Weekly) at Ringgit Malaysia Five Hundred Twenty (RM520.00) only.

  • The above Promotion is only applicable to current The Star Bundle subscribers with a minimum remaining subscription period of not exceeding six (6) months from the date of this Promotion. Should we receive your renewal application after your current subscription expires, the above Promotion will not be applicable.

6.1.2 Renewal Payment and Processing

  • You can renew your subscription through Newsstand or alternatively, you may request for a renewal form by emailing customerservice@thestar.com.my or call 1-300-88-7827.
  • Refer to the provisions under Section 3 for payment and processing procedures.

6.1.3 Renewal Delivery

  • Please allow ten (10) working days to process your renewal application for the arrangement of delivery of The Star newspaper

For example, if your subscription expires on 30th June 2013, and your renewal application is received by us before/on 20th June 2013, your subscription will continue from 1st July 2013 and The Star newspaper will be delivered to you from 1st July 2013 onward. If your renewal application be received after 20th June 2013, your subscription will only commence from 1st August 2013 and we will only deliver The Star newspaper to you from 1st August 2013 onward.

However, you can continue reading the ePaper as your ePaper account will be activated within two (2) working days from the date of receipt of your renewal application.

6.2 The Star Corporate Bundle

6.2.1 Promotion

  • You may take up the following Promotion prior to the end of your current The Star Corporate Bundle subscription: –

    1. One (1) year of The Star newspaper (257 issues Mon – Fri) and ePaper (361 issues and 4 Regional ePapers i.e. The Jakarta Post, The Nation and The Philippine Daily Inquirer and China Daily Asia Weekly) at Ringgit Malaysia Two Hundred Twenty (RM220.00) only.
    2. One (1) year of The Star newspaper and ePaper (361 issues includes 12 issues of and 4 Regional ePapers i.e. The Jakarta Post, The Nation and The Philippine Daily Inquirer and China Daily Asia Weekly) at Ringgit Malaysia Two Hundred Sixty (RM260.00) only.

The above Promotion is applicable to current The Star Corporate Bundle subscribers with a minimum remaining subscription period of not exceeding six (6) months from the date of this Promotion. Should we receive your renewal application after your current subscription expires, the above Promotion will not be applicable.

6.2.2 Renewal Payments and Processing

  • You are required to submit the renewal form, which is enclosed in your reminder letter, or walk in to our corporate office to submit your subscription form.
  • Refer to the provisions under Section 3

6.2.3 Renewal Delivery

  • Please allow 10 (ten) working days to process your renewal application for the arrangement of delivery of The Star newspaper.

For example, if your subscription expires on 30th June 2013, and your renewal application is received by us before/on 20th June 2013, your subscription will continue from 1st July 2013 and The Star newspaper will be delivered to you from 1st July 2013 onward. If your renewal application be received after 20th June 2013, your subscription will only commence from 1st August 2013 and we will only deliver The Star newspaper to you from 1st August 2013 onward.

However, you can continue reading the ePaper as your ePaper account will be activated within two (2) working days from the date of receipt of your renewal application.

We reserve the absolute right to revise our pricing and/or to withdraw the renewal packages promotion at any time, without the need to inform you prior to such a change and/or withdrawal, as the case may be.

This terms and conditions contained herein for the Promotion and the Standard T&C are intended to be correlative and complementary. In the event of a conflict between any provisions of the Standard T&C and any provisions hereof, the former shall prevail.

Note to subscribers: The above additional terms and conditions address the need for you to renew the whole package effectively in order to avoid disruption of The Star Bundle services.

7. Cancellation and Refund

7.1. Cancellation

Subscription fee paid is for the full duration of your subscription. No cancellation or early termination or changing of subscription package of The Star Bundle subscription is allowed.

For auto-renewal, there will be no refunds or cancellations after the card has been charged. To opt-out of auto-renewal, please go to your Newsstand account and opt-out. Your subscription will not be automatically renewed after the current one expires.

7.2. Refund

  • Refunds are strictly prohibited.
  • Refund may be allowed at our sole discretion: –

  1. In the event that we are unable to appoint a newspaper vendor to fulfill your subscription; or
  2. In exceptional circumstances, of which we will review on a case by case basis; or
  3. In the event of refund where you have received delivery notes from us, you must return the unexpired delivery notes to us in exchange for the refund and we will impose RM20 administrative charge for all refund cases. You are responsible for the delivery and postal charges to the address stated in Section 9. Proof of postage shall not constitute proof of receipt by us.

8. Responsibility and Liability

You agree that we are not responsible for any failure by us to perform our obligation to you in relation to your subscription where such failure is caused by circumstances beyond our reasonable control and that we shall not be liable for any loss suffered by you directly or indirectly, in relation to your subscription.

Your use of The Star ePaper (including the 4 Regional ePapers i.e. The Jakarta Post, The Nation, The Philippine Daily Inquirer and China Daily Asia Weekly) shall also be governed by Newspaper Direct’s Terms of Use Agreement and Service Privacy Policy. In the event of any inconsistencies between NewspaperDirect’s Term of Use Policy and/or Service Privacy Policy with the Terms and Conditions contained herein, the terms as contained in the Terms and Conditions shall prevail. 9. Use and Disclosure of Personally Identifiable Information and Anonymous Information

By agreeing to the terms and conditions contained herein, you hereby allow Star Media Group to collect your Personal Information to be regulated and managed by Star Media Group. You also hereby agree to received the latest information about products, news and events updates, rewards and promotions, special privileges and initiatives form Star Media Group, its partners and advertisers.

  • When you order/subscribe the magazine(s), you are making an offer to order/subscribe, which if accepted by us, will result in a binding contract. We reserve the right not to accept or process your order/subscription without reason.
  • Kindly fill in the form available at https://bookstore.thestar.com.my/ and to furnish your full address and contact number to facilitate shipment.
  • Request for the change of shipping address and/or particulars of order/subscription shall be made within five (5) working days from the date of your order/subscription (“Grace Period”). Any amendment after the Grace Period will not be entertained. Difference in payment, if any, should be remitted to us based on the changes made by you within five (5) working days.
  • We require four (4) to six (6) weeks to process your order/subscription and to deliver the same to your shipping address. We shall not be held responsible for failure or delay to deliver the magazine(s) if you have supplied us with an incorrect shipping address.
  • It shall be deemed that the magazine(s) have been duly delivered to you if there is no report to any losses and/or damages within seven (7) days from date of delivery (“Report”). We shall replace magazine(s) that are lost and/or damaged due to shipment within two (2) weeks from the date of the Report. In the case of damaged copy, the copy should be returned to us as proof.
  • Should you wish to cancel your order/subscription, please contact our Customer Service Hotline 1 300 88 7-8-2-7 (S-T-A-R) or email: customerservice@thestar.com.my. We reserve the absolute discretion to approve or reject your request for cancellation. For cancellation of your order/subscription, you shall be responsible for the payment of an administrative charge of RM20. Notwithstanding anything stated to the contrary, no cancellation will be entertained once your magazine(s) have been shipped to your shipping address.
  • The price of the magazine(s) displayed is excluding additional delivery costs and taxes imposed by the respective authorities which shall be borne by you separately.
  • If your order/subscription contains a supplemental gift, such gift will be delivered to your shipping address within two (2) months from the date of first delivery of your magazine(s) or such other longer delivery period as we deem fit and appropriate. You are obliged to take all reasonable steps to ensure the safety standards and the general appropriateness of the supplemental gift offered to you. You shall exercise due diligence and care when using the supplemental gift for yourself and/or any third party and to the extent permitted by laws, you shall release from and indemnify us against all liability, cost, loss and/or expenses arising out of your use of any of the supplemental gift including (but not limited to) loss of income, loss of opportunity, personal injury and damage to your property, whether direct or consequential or foreseeable, due to some negligent act or omission or otherwise.
  • Supplemental gift is not exchangeable for cash consideration.   • If the magazine(s) ordered by you changes the frequency, we will honor the number of issues paid for and not the term of your subscription.
  • We reserve the absolute right to review and vary the terms and conditions contained herein at any time and you will be notified accordingly of such review and variation.

  • Star reserve the right to restrict, impose limitation, discontinue or change any aspect of the ePaper Service including but not limited to content and subscription plans.
  • Star have the right to immediately terminate your Account in the event that you breach this agreement.
  • Star reserves the right to amend these rules at any time without prior notification to you.
  • You agree that Star shall not be held responsible in way whatsoever for any failure by Star to perform any of its obligation to you in relation to your subscription where such failure is caused by circumstances beyond its reasonable control and that Star shall not be liable for any loss suffered by you directly or indirectly, in relation to your subscription.
  • Your use of the ePaper shall also be governed by Newspaper Direct’s Terms of Use Agreement and Service Privacy Policy. 2. Availability

It is available for everyone at the time of the promo. However, the subscription forms are only available from road shows/ exhibitions or redemption links from partners.
Star Media Group Berhad (“Star”) reserves absolute right in the following events: –

  • The trial period may vary from time to time depending on the collaborative partners. Star reserves the right to alter the trial period without prior notification.
  • Approval of the all the registrations will be at the sole discretion of Star and its relevant partners.
  • Upgrade or remove any of the features of ePaper.
  • Each person is only entitled to one complimentary e-paper for the duration of one month. In the event that there are duplicate applications for one person, only one trial e-paper will be given to the subscriber.
  • Third party registration will not be allowed under normal circumstances.
  • The subscription is not transferable to any third party.
  • The trial or complimentary ePaper is not applicable to active/current subscribers under the same e-mail address.

3. Payment and Processing

Please note that the complimentary/trial ePaper is absolutely free for the duration of the trial period. However, Star shall not be held responsible for the Internet browsing charges and all related charges in the event that you incur any costs during the trial period.

Only completed and legible registration forms received from the road shows, exhibitions or via redemption link will be accepted. In the event that your form is incomplete and/or illegible, it will be automatically voided and that your registration will be deemed unsuccessful. There will be no notification to unsuccessful applicants.

4. Delivery

Delivery of the ePaper will take a minimum of 5 to 7 working days (Manual /Redemption links/ Road shows) upon clearance from Star and any collaborative partners.

Any request from subscribers for extension of the redemption/ trial period of one month will not be entertained under normal circumstances. 

5. Renewal

Upon expiration of the trial period, a reminder will be sent to you and we will also update you on any upcoming promotions.

  • Star Voucher is a cash voucher and you may use it to: –

A. advertise in StarSearch (pull out ONLY); or,
B. subscribe for new The Star Bundle or magazine; or
C. renewal of The Star Bundle or magazine; or

The use of Star Voucher to advertise in our Celebrations and/or StarSearch sections shall subject to the casual rates published in the standard rate card, and all other promotional rates and discount are not applicable.

  • Original Star Voucher must be presented at our HQ or Regional bureaus. We do not entertain any purchase or order via online, agents or tele ads.
  • Star Voucher is non-exchangeable for cash.
  • Star Voucher is transferable to friends or families.
  • Star Voucher can be accumulated.
  • Star Voucher is not valid after the expiry date.
  • No cash refund will be given if your purchase fall short of the amount indicated in the Star Voucher.
  • Star Voucher is not replaceable and any complains related to misplace, lost or damaged voucher will not be entertained.

Terms & Conditions for Joi-ful Promotion
By subscribing to The Star Joi-ful Promotion packages, you hereby unconditionally, expressly and irrevocably agree to abide by the following terms and conditions: –

  • The Star Joi-ful Promotion (“Promotion”) is a subscription promotion offered by Star Media Group Berhad (formerly known as Star Publications (M) Berhad) (Company No. 10894-D) (“Organiser”) and is open to all Malaysian residents aged 18 years old and above (“Participants”).

1. Subscription

The Star-Sin Chew ePaper package is a subscription package consisting of Sin Chew ePaper, The Star ePaper and 4 Regional ePapers i.e. The Jakarta Post, The Nation and The Philippine Daily Inquirer and China Daily Asia Weekly (hereinafter collectively referred to as the “Regional ePapers”). The subscription is not transferable to any third party.

For West Malaysia, subscribers will receive full edition of The Star ePaper and the 4 Regional ePapers.

For East Malaysia, subscribers are entitled to download the following sections of The Star ePaper: Main, Metro Sarawak, Star2, StarBiz and SME. You can view the sections that are not available in the app but will not be able to download.

The Star ePaper and the Regional ePapers must be accessed through the Star ePaper app or the Star’s website.  The Sin Chew ePaper must be accessed through the Sin Chew ePaper app.

The Star will provide you with one user account to access The Star and the 4 Regional ePapers via the Star ePaper app and/or Star’s website .

Sin Chew will provide you with one user account to access the Sin Chew ePaper via the Sin Chew ePaper app and website.

2. Undertaking of Responsibility

You are hereby duly informed that The Star withholds from any undertaking and responsibility concerning the Sin Chew ePaper or Sin Chew Media Corporation Berhad.  You are advised to contact Sin Chew Media Corporation Berhad directly in relation to the terms and conditions of Sin Chew ePaper.

3. Availability

The Star & Sin Chew ePaper package is available at the prevailing prices.

The Star reserves the absolute right to: –

  • Revise prices and/or withdraw the subscription package at any time, without the need to inform you prior to such a change and/or withdrawal, as the case may be.
  • Upgrade or remove any of the features of The Star & Sin Chew ePaper. No refund or discount will be given to you should you decide not to take up any of the upgraded features or upon the removal of any of the existing features of The Star & Sin Chew ePaper.
  • Withdraw any section(s)/title(s)/page(s) of The Star & Sin Chew ePaper at any time as we deem fit without prior notification. No refund or discount will be available in the event of such withdrawal.
  • Subscription that has been paid in full shall not be affected by the change except when due to our inability to fulfil our subscription offer or under exceptional conditions not within our reasonable control. In these cases, the provisions under section 7 shall apply.

4. Payment and Processing

You can subscribe to The Star & Sin Chew ePaper from Newsstand or fill up a subscription form, available at our main and regional offices. To facilitate the subscription, you undertake to provide complete and accurate information required by us.

  • For subscription through Newsstand, you can pay by credit card, e-banking or e-wallet.
  • For subscription using the form, you can pay by cash, credit card or cheque made payable to STAR MEDIA GROUP BERHAD. Your payment shall be construed as an offer to purchase The Star & Sin Chew ePaper package. The sale of the subscription is deemed completed and accepted once your subscription together with payment is successfully processed.

Upon successful processing of your subscription, we will send you a letter via snail mail and email. The letter will specify your subscription period (i.e. commencement date and expiry date). For details of subscription package, please log in to Newsstand > my account.

Please be informed that the commencement dates for your Star ePaper (inclusive of Regional ePapers) and Sin Chew ePaper may not be the same. The Star will inform you of the commencement date for the Star ePaper (inclusive of Regional ePapers). For the Sin Chew ePaper commencement, Sin Chew Media Corporation will advise you accordingly.

5. The Star ePaper & Sin Chew ePaper Password

5.1 The Star ePaper

You can start accessing the Star ePaper, the Regional ePapers once your ePaper account has been successfully set up. You will receive the ePaper password within 5 working days after we have completed processing your subscription and payment.

5.2 Sin Chew ePaper

You may receive your ePaper password for the Sin Chew ePaper from Sin Chew Media Corporation within 5 working days.

6. Renewal

The Star & Sin Chew ePaper subscription is not automatically renewed at the end of the subscription period.  We will send you a renewal notice at the end of the subscription period. Auto-renewal is not available for this package.

We will advise you of the changes to the subscription plan, if any, in the renewal notice.

6.1. Renewal Payment and Processing

You can renew your subscription to subscription packages offered by The Star through Newsstand or you may submit the renewal form which is enclosed in your reminder letter.

7. Cancellation and Refund

Subscription fees paid is for the full duration of your subscription. No refund, cancellation, changing of subscription package or early termination of the  subscription is allowed.

8. Responsibility and Liability

You agree that we are not responsible for any failure by us to perform our obligation to you in relation to your subscription where such failure is caused by circumstances beyond our reasonable control and that we shall not be liable for any loss suffered by you directly or indirectly, in relation to your subscription.

8.1 NewpaperDirect Terms of Use Agreement and Privacy Policy

Your use of The Star (including the Regional ePapers) shall also be governed by Newspaper Direct’s Terms of Use Agreement and Service Privacy Policy. By participating in the Lucky Subscriber Subscription Event, you hereby unconditionally, expressly and irrevocably agree to abide by the following terms and conditions: –

• The Lucky Subscriber Subscription Event (“Promotion”) is a subscription promotion offered by Star Media Group Berhad (Company No : 10894-D) (“Organiser”) and is open to all Malaysian residents aged 18 years old and above (“Participants”).
• The Promotion will run for eight (8) consecutive weeks, commencing from 05/09/2016 and ending on 30/10/2016 (“Promotion Period”).

• Participants must subscribe in order to participate. Participants must subscribe within the Promotion Period to be eligible for an entry to win Prizes, failing which they will not be entitled to entries to win the Prizes.
• Winners will be notified by the Organiser to collect the Prizes via telephone or email.
• Winners are chosen by the following method: the total number of entries will be compiled and randomly jumbled. The entries will then be divided further into groups, dependent on the number of prizes in the prize pool. From the groups of entries prize-winners shall be chosen randomly.
• All Prizes must be collected from the Organiser’s office or any other places determined by the Organiser within one (1) months from the date of notification.
• All unclaimed Prizes will be forfeited and the Organiser will not be held responsible if the email notification to the winner has been automatically sent to the winner(s) email trash or spam bin.
