TERMS & CONDITIONS

 

A) StarNewsstand

 

These Terms & Conditions govern your use of “The StarNewsstand” platform (“Platform”) and the Services (as hereinafter defined) made available to you by Star Media Group Berhad (Company No.: 197101000523 (10894-D) (“Company”) through the Platform. Please read the following terms carefully before subscribing to the Service as they contain binding legal terms and obligations, which shall include but not limited to, limitations or exclusion of our liability. By subscribing to the Service, you are deemed to have fully read, understood and agreed to be bound by these Terms & Conditions governing the Services.

 

Introduction

The Platform is operated by the Company to facilitate the subscription of the Company’s products (“Services”) which shall include but not limited to: The Star Newspaper (Print), The Star ePaper, The Star Bundle (Print and ePaper), Kuntum, dimsum entertainment and The Star Digital Access (collectively, “Products”).

 

APPLICABLE TAX AND TAX INVOICE

In addition to the subscription fee(s) of the individual Product, you shall be liable for payment of any applicable government taxes and/or levies as may be imposed by the relevant governmental agency/authority in Malaysia. For the avoidance of doubt, the subscription fee provided herein is inclusive of the relevant service tax under the Service Tax Act 2018. The Company will make available to you a valid tax invoice in respect of the amount payable but you will be responsible for prompt payment even if you have not received the tax invoice. For avoidance of doubt, nothing herein shall preclude the Company from correcting at any time any error or discrepancy in the amount stated in the tax invoice.

A certificate signed by an officer of the Company shall be conclusive evidence as to any amounts owing under or in respect of the Platform (save for demonstrable error).

 

PASSWORD AND ACCOUNT ACCESS

As a StarNewsstand account holder, you will have access and control over your registered account. Your registered account contains some sensitive information such as subscription information, payment method, billing and payment information, personalised settings and recommended content. To safeguard your details and privacy, do NOT reveal your password nor your payment details to anyone.

You shall be responsible for keeping your account details up-to-date and accurate.

Account holders should be mindful of any communication requesting credit card or other account information. You hereby acknowledge that providing information in response to these types of communications can result in identity theft. You are advised to access your sensitive account information by going directly to https://newsstand.thestar.com.my/ and not through hyperlink in an email or any specific electronic communication.

 

USE AND DISCLOSURE OF PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION AND ANONYMOUS INFORMATION

By registering for a StarNewsstand account, you hereby allow the Company and/or its subsidiaries and/or affiliates (collectively, “Star Media Group”) to collect and process your Personal Data (as defined by Section 4 of the Malaysian Personal Data Protection Act 2010) for the provision of the Platform.

WARRANTIES AND LIMITATIONS OF LIABILITY

The Services are provided to you on an "as is where is" basis and without warranty or condition. In particular, the Services may not be uninterrupted or error-free. You waive all special, indirect and consequential damages against the Company in relation to the use of the Services.

 

GOVERNING LAW

These Terms & Conditions shall be governed by the laws of Malaysia.

B) The Star Newspaper (Print) Subscription

 

The Star Newspaper (Print) is a subscription to The Star newspaper.

 

1. Subscription

The Star Newspaper (Print) subscription is not transferable to any third party.

When you purchase/subscribe to The Star Newspaper (Print), you are making an offer to purchase/subscribe, which if accepted by us, will result in a binding contract. We reserve the right not to accept or process your purchase/subscription without reason.

By purchasing/subscribing to The Star Newspaper (Print), you agree that you have read, understand and accept the terms and conditions. You may contact our customer service hotline at 1 300 88 7827 (STAR) or email us at customerservice@thestar.com.my for further clarification.

We reserve the absolute right to review and vary the terms and conditions contained herein at any time and you will be notified accordingly of such review and variation.

 

2. Availability

The Star Newspaper (Print) is available at the prevailing prices whereby the delivery address for The Star Newspaper (Print) must be within Peninsular Malaysia. Delivery of The Star Newspaper (Print) to addresses within East Malaysia will not be available.

 

We reserve the absolute right to: –

a) change our prices and/or withdraw the subscription package at any time, without the need to inform you prior to such a change and/or withdrawal, as the case may be.

b) upgrade or remove any of the features of The Star Newspaper (Print). No refund or discount will be given to you should you decide not to take up any of the upgraded features or upon the removal of any of the existing features of The Star Newspaper (Print) subscription.

c) withdraw any section(s)/title(s)/page(s) of The Star Newspaper (Print) at any time as we deem fit without prior notification. No refund or discount will be available in the event of such withdrawal.

Subscription that has been paid in full shall not be affected by the change of subscription price unless due to our inability to fulfill our subscription offer or under exceptional conditions not within our reasonable control. In these cases, the provision under Clause 7 shall apply.

 

3. Payment and Processing

You can subscribe to The Star Newspaper (Print) subscription from at the StarNewsstand or through a subscription form which is available at our main and regional offices. Click here to view the full listing. To facilitate the subscription, you undertake to provide complete and accurate information required by us.

For subscription through the StarNewsstand, you can pay by credit/debit card, e-banking or e-wallet.

For subscription using the manual subscription form, you can pay by cash, credit/debit card or cheque made payable to STAR MEDIA GROUP BERHAD. Your payment shall be construed as an offer to purchase The Star Newspaper (Print) subscription.

The sale of the subscription is deemed completed and accepted once your subscription together with payment is successfully processed.

Upon successful processing of your subscription, we will notify you by email which will specify your subscription period (i.e. commencement date and expiry date) (“Subscription Notification”). For details of the subscription packages, please visit StarNewsstand or call our Customer Service Hotline at 1 300 88 7827 (STAR).

 

4. Delivery Note(s)

A delivery note is a payment to the newspaper vendor at the end of every month in exchange for newspapers. It serves as a proof of delivery as well as a kind of "payment chit" for your newspaper vendor.

 

4.1Types of Delivery Note(s)

There are two (2) types of delivery notes:

a) Credit Note (CN): The CN will be issued to newspaper vendors by the Company. The vendor will receive a CN on the payment(s) credited to the vendor’s account at the end of each month. An acknowledgment letter will be emailed to you upon the commencement of your subscription. Subscribers may share the second page (“Vendor’s Copy”) of the acknowledgement letter (hard or soft copy) to their delivery vendor.

b) Payment vouchers (PV): We are no longer issuing PV for new subscriptions. However, subscribers who still have their PV can pay their delivery vendors with the PV until the expiration of their current subscription(s).

Lost and/or misplaced delivery note(s), which was issued to you previously,  must be informed to us in writing via email to customerservice@thestar.com.my or call 1 300 88 7827 (STAR). An administrative fee of RM50 will be charged if you request for replacement of delivery note(s). A monthly Credit Note (CN) will be issued as replacement for any misplaced delivery note(s).

 

5. Delivery

5.1. The Star Newspaper (Print)

a) Please allow at least ten (10) working days for us to process and commence your subscription order upon successful subscription.

b) Delivery of the newspaper to new subscribers shall commence from the first day of the subsequent month, depending on the date when your subscription form and the proof of payment is received by us. For example, if your subscription form and payment are received before/on 25th June, you will receive The Star newspaper starting from 1st July; if your subscription form and payment are received after 25th June, you will receive The Star Newspaper (Print) starting from 1st August.

c) It shall be deemed that the newspapers have been duly delivered to you if there is no report of any losses within two (2) working days from the date of delivery.

d) You shall be required to pay a monthly delivery fee to the appointed vendor, which is NOT included in your subscription. Each delivery fee is for one (1) subscription only (individual/corporate). In the event that more than one subscription is delivered to the same delivery address, the delivery fee shall be mutually agreed upon between yourself and the delivering vendor. The delivery fees range from RM2 to RM15 / month, within Peninsular Malaysia only. This is also subject to your delivery address.

e) In relation to the subscription in bulk by a corporate subscriber, we will only deliver The Star Newspaper (Print) to one (1) of the corporate addresses provided in the subscription form.

 

6. Renewal

Subscription to The Star Newspaper (Print) can only be renewed within a period of three (3) months* before and after the expiry date of your last subscription via StarNewsstand.

For example, if your subscription expiry date is on the 30th June, you are able to renew your subscription between 1st April and 30th September.

*This is subject to changes and discretion of the Company.

You may also opt for auto-renewal where your subscription will be renewed automatically upon expiry of the current subscription for the same subscription plan. This will save you a lot of effort and hassle. To learn more about auto-renewal, click here.

The Star Newspaper (Print) subscription will not be automatically renewed unless you have opted for auto-renewal. We will send you three (3) renewal notices by e-mail or  any other mode of communication as we deem fit and appropriate, from three (3) months, two (2) months and one (1) month prior to the expiration of your current subscription package. We will advise you of the changes to the subscription package, if any, in the renewal notice.

 

6.1 The Star Newspaper (Print) subscription

a) You are entitled to the pricing stated in the latest renewal notice sent to you. The renewal pricing is only valid within the date specified on the renewal notice PROVIDED ALWAYS THAT there is no change of subscription price within such prescribed period. In the event of a change of subscription price, the renewal pricing offered herein will be updated accordingly.

 

6.2 Renewal Payment and Processing

a) You can renew your subscription through the StarNewsstand or alternatively, you may request for a renewal form by sending an email to customerservice@thestar.com.my or call 1 300 88 7827 (STAR).

b) Refer to the provisions under Clause 3 for payment and processing procedures.

 

6.3 Renewal Delivery

a) Please allow ten (10) working days to process your renewal application for the arrangement of delivery of The Star Newspaper (Print).

 

6.4 Renewal Closing Dates  

If your subscription expires on 30th June, and your renewal application is received by us before/on 25th June, your subscription will continue from 1st July and The Star Newspaper (Print) will be delivered to you from 1st July onwards. If your renewal application is received after 25th June, your subscription will only commence from 1st August and we will only deliver The Star Newspaper (Print) to you from 1st August onwards.

However, you can continue reading The Star ePaper as your Star ePaper account will be activated within three (3) working days from the date of receipt of your renewal application.

We reserve the absolute right to revise our pricing and/or to withdraw the renewal packages promotion at any time, without the need to inform you prior to such a change and/or withdrawal, as the case may be.

 

6.5 Change of Delivery Address

Request for a change of delivery address is subject to availability of vendors in the new area. Any request to change your delivery address must be done so in writing to us via email to  customerservice@thestar.com.my or call 1 300 88 7827 (STAR), stating your reason(s) for the change of address, or via StarNewsstand.

Change of delivery address is subject to approval. Please note that the effective date can only be on the 1st of the following month. Kindly allow seven (7) working days upon receiving your application to process the change of delivery address before the 1st of the effective month.

Once your request is accepted, the delivery of the newspaper to the new address will take effect from the 1st day of the following month.

For example, if your request to change the delivery address is received before/on 20th June, the change will take effect from 1st July. Otherwise, if your request is received after 20th June, the change will take effect from 1st August.

Please be advised that you shall be charged RM50 administrative fees for the second change of address onwards. The first change of delivery address is free.

 

7. Cancellation and Refund

7.1. Cancellation

Subscription fee paid is for the full duration of your subscription. No cancellation or early termination or changing of subscription package for The Star Newspaper (Print) subscription is allowed.

For auto-renewal, there will be no refunds or cancellations after the card has been charged. To deactivate auto-renewal, please go to your StarNewsstand account and disable auto-renewal. After you have disabled auto-renewal, your subscription(s) will not be automatically renewed after the current one expires.

7.2. Refund

a) Refund is strictly prohibited save and except for scenario(s) as provided in Clause 7.2 (b) hereof.

b) Refund may be allowed at our sole discretion if:

i) we are unable to appoint a newspaper vendor to fulfill your subscription; or

ii) in exceptional circumstances which we will review on a case to case basis.

c) In the event of a refund pursuant to Clause 7.2 (b) (i), we will refund the full subscription fee.

d) In the event of a refund pursuant to Clause 7.2(b) (ii), the following shall be deducted from your subscription fee and the balance thereof will be refunded to you:

i) Total cover price of the newspapers delivered up to the termination date of your subscription; and

ii) An administrative charge of Ringgit Malaysia Fifty (RM50.00) only.

e)  You must return the unexpired delivery notes (if any) to us at your own cost and expenses to the address as provided in Clause 10 hereof in exchange for the refund. Proof of postage shall not constitute proof of receipt by us.

 

8. Responsibility and Liability 

You agree that we are not responsible for any failure by us to perform our obligation to you in relation to your subscription where such failure is caused by circumstances beyond our reasonable control and that we shall not be liable for any loss suffered by you directly or indirectly, in relation to your subscription.

If you are using PressReader to access to The Star ePaper, your use of The Star ePaper shall also be governed by our service provider’s Terms of Use Agreement and Service Privacy Policy. In the event of any inconsistencies between PressReader’s Term of Use Policy and/or Service Privacy Policy with the Terms and Conditions contained herein, our Terms and Conditions shall prevail. 9. Use and Disclosure of Personally Identifiable Information and Anonymous Information

By agreeing to the terms and conditions contained herein, you hereby allow Star Media Group to collect and process your Personal Data (as defined by Section 4 of the Personal Data Protection Act 2010). You also expressly agree for Star Media Group to share your name and address with Star Media Group’s appointed vendors/distributors for the purposes of delivering The Star Newspaper (Print) to you. You also hereby agree to receive the latest information about products, news and events updates, rewards and promotions, special privileges and initiatives from Star Media Group, its partners and advertisers.

C) The Star ePaper Subscription

 

1.    Subscription

The Star ePaper subscription is a subscription of The Star ePaper, a digital replica of The Star Newspaper (Print), whereby all sections published in The Star Newspaper (Print) will be available in The Star ePaper. The subscription is not transferable to any third party.

 

2. Availability and connectivity

The Star ePaper is available to everyone with Internet access.

Your device must be connected to the Internet if you are browsing through The Star ePaper. If you are reading The Star ePaper from mobile application, you will require Internet connection when you download issues of The Star ePaper, use of the audio reader feature and article sharing function enabled by the mobile application.

You have to download the latest version of The Star ePaper mobile application(s) (i.e.: iOS and Android) from the respective mobile application store(s) in order to access to The Star ePaper vide your mobile device.

If you are using PressReader for The Star ePaper, you may not be able to access to The Star ePaper  from China, North Korea and Zimbabwe.

Please note that the restrictions are due to the respective governments’ policies and we do not have any control on accessibility. You may be able to access via The Star ePaper or app depending on the current policies. The Star is not liable for any access restrictions due to the aforementioned.

 

We reserve the absolute right to:

a) approve or reject your subscription request.

b) upgrade or remove any of the features of Star ePaper.

c) withdraw any section(s)/title(s)/page(s) of Star ePaper without prior notification.

d) change our prices and/or withdraw the subscription package at any time, without the need to inform you prior to such a change and/or withdrawal, as the case may be.

 

3. Payment and Processing

a) We are not responsible for Internet browsing charges and all related charges incurred by you for the usage of The Star ePaper.

b) Payment for The Star ePaper can be made via online, cash payment, or cheque/mail/postal order.

c) Proof of payment made is not proof of receipt and we will not be held responsible in the event that the money is missing in transit.

d) You can start accessing the Star ePaper once your The Star ePaper account has been successfully set up. You will receive The Star ePaper password within three (3) working days after we have completed processing your subscription and payment.

e) Upon successful processing of your subscription, we will notify you by email which will specify your subscription period (i.e. commencement date and expiry date) (“Subscription Notification”). 5.   Responsibility and Liability

a) Unless otherwise permitted herein, you shall not and will not allow any third parties to make, distribute and/or resell copies of the Star ePaper, attempt to copy, screenshot, print screen, reproduce, alter, modify, transfer, exchange or translate the application or its contents, and/or create derivative works of the application of any kind whatsoever.

If you are reading The Star ePaper from mobile application, you shall be entitled to ten (10) times limited screenshot (“Limited Screenshots”) strictly for personal reference and/or note taking purposes. Once you have fully utilized the Limited Screenshots, you will be automatically logged out from the mobile application for ten (10) minutes. You may re-login to the mobile application after ten (10) minutes to access to The Star ePaper.

b) We reserve the right to restrict, impose limitations, discontinue or change any aspect of the Star ePaper, including but not limited to content and subscription plans from time to time.

c) We reserve the right to immediately terminate your access to Star ePaper in the event that you breach any of the terms and conditions contained herein.

d) We reserve the absolute right to amend any terms and conditions contained herein at any time without prior notification.

e) You agree that we shall not be held responsible in whatsoever way for any failure to perform any of our obligation herein for the provision of the Star ePaper subscription in the event such failure is caused by circumstances beyond our reasonable control and that we shall not be liable for any loss suffered by you directly or indirectly, in relation to your subscription.

f) You agree that we are not responsible for any failure by us to perform our obligation to you in relation to your subscription where such failure is caused by circumstances beyond our reasonable control and that we shall not be liable for any loss suffered by you directly or indirectly, in relation to your subscription.

g) If you are using PressReader for The Star ePaper, your use of The Star ePaper shall also be governed by our service provider’s PressReader’s Terms of Use Agreement and Service Privacy Policy. In the event of any inconsistencies between PressReader’s Term of Use Policy and/or Service Privacy Policy with the Terms and Conditions contained herein, our Terms and Conditions shall prevail. D) The Star Bundle Subscription

 

The Star Bundle is a subscription package consisting of The Star newspaper (Print) and The Star ePaper, a digital replica of The Star Newspaper (Print).

 

1. Subscription

Each subscriber will be provided with one (1) user account to access The Star ePaper via the mobile application or the web application when they subscribe to The Star Bundle.

The Star ePaper login credentials will be the same as the login credentials for the StarNewsstand.

The Star Bundle subscription is not transferable to any third party and the delivery notes for The Star Newspaper (Print) must be used concurrently with The Star ePaper by the same subscriber.

When you purchase/subscribe to The Star Bundle, you are making an offer to purchase/subscribe, which if accepted by us, will result in a binding contract. We reserve the right not to accept or process your purchase/subscription without reason.

1. Credit Note (CN): The CN will be issued to newspaper vendors by the Company. The vendor will receive a CN on the payment(s) credited to the vendor’s account at the end of each month. An acknowledgment letter will be emailed to you upon the commencement of your subscription. Subscribers may share the second page (“Vendor’s Copy”) of the acknowledgement letter (hard or soft copy) to their delivery vendor.

2. Payment vouchers (PV): We are no longer issuing PV for new subscriptions. However, subscribers who still have their PV can pay their delivery vendors with the PV until the expiration of their current subscription(s).

Lost and/or misplaced delivery note(s), which was issued to you previously,  must be informed to us in writing via email to customerservice@thestar.com.my or call 1 300 88 7827 (STAR). An administrative fee of RM50 will be charged if you request for replacement of delivery note(s). A monthly Credit Note (CN) will be issued as replacement for any misplaced delivery note(s).

 

5. Delivery

5.1. The Star Newspaper (Print)

a) Please allow at least ten (10) working days for us to process and commence your subscription order upon successful subscription.

b) Delivery of the newspaper to new subscribers shall commence from the first day of the month, depending on the date when your subscription form and the proof of payment is received by us. For example, if your subscription form and payment are received before/on 25th June, you will receive The Star Newspaper (Print) starting from 1st July; if your subscription form and payment are received after 25th June, you will receive The Star Newspaper (Print) starting from 1st August.

c) It shall be deemed that the newspapers have been duly delivered to you if there is no report of any losses within two (2) working days from the date of delivery.

d) You shall be required to pay a monthly delivery fee to the appointed vendor, which is NOT included in your subscription. Each delivery fee is for one (1) subscription only (individual/corporate). In the event that more than one subscription is delivered to the same delivery address, the delivery fee shall be mutually agreed upon between yourself and the delivering vendor. The delivery fees range from RM2 to RM15 / month, within Peninsular Malaysia only. This is also subject to your delivery address.

e) In relation to the subscription in bulk by a corporate subscriber, we will only deliver The Star Newspaper (Print) to one (1) of the corporate addresses provided in the subscription form.

 

5.2. The Star ePaper

a) You can start accessing The Star ePaper once you have received the email notification on your subscription commencement within three (3) working days after we have completed processing your subscription and payment. Your Star ePaper subscription period reflected in your account will follow the subscription period of your The Star Newspaper (Print) as stated in Clause 5.1(b).

 

6.    Renewal

Subscription to The Star Bundle can only be renewed within a period of three (3) months* before and after the expiry date of your last subscription via StarNewsstand.

For example, if your subscription expiry date is on the 30th June, you are able to renew your subscription between 1st April and 30th September.

*This is subject to changes and at the discretion of the company.

You may also opt for auto-renewal where your subscription will be renewed automatically upon expiry of the current subscription for the same subscription plan. This will save you a lot of effort and hassle. To learn more about auto-renewal, click here.

The Star Newspaper (Print) subscription will not be automatically renewed unless you have opted for auto-renewal. We will send you three (3) renewal notices by e-mail or  any other mode of communication as we deem fit and appropriate, from three (3) months, two (2) months and one (1) month prior to the expiration of your current subscription package. We will advise you of the changes to the subscription package, if any, in the renewal notice.

 

6.1 The Star Bundle/The Star Corporate Bundle

b) You are entitled to the pricing stated in the latest renewal notice sent to you. The renewal pricing is only valid within the date specified on the renewal notice PROVIDED ALWAYS THAT there is no change of subscription price within such prescribed period. In the event of a change of subscription price, the renewal pricing offered herein will be updated accordingly.

 

6.2   Renewal Payment and Processing

c) You can renew your subscription through the StarNewsstand or alternatively, you may request for a renewal form by sending an email to customerservice@thestar.com.my or call 1 300 88 7827 (STAR).

d) Refer to the provisions under Clause 3 for payment and processing procedures.

 

6.3   Renewal Delivery

b) Please allow ten (10) working days to process your renewal application for the arrangement of delivery of The Star Newspaper (Print).

 

6.4   Renewal Closing Dates  

If your subscription expires on 30th June, and your renewal application is received by us before/on 20th June, your subscription will continue from 1st July and The Star Newspaper (Print) will be delivered to you from 1st July onwards. If your renewal application is received after 20th June, your subscription will only commence from 1st August and we will only deliver The Star Newspaper (Print) to you from 1st August onwards.

However, you can continue reading TheStar ePaper as your Star ePaper account will be activated within three (3) working days from the date of receipt of your renewal application.

We reserve the absolute right to revise our pricing and/or to withdraw the renewal packages promotion at any time, without the need to inform you prior to such a change and/or withdrawal, as the case may be.

 

6.5   Change of Delivery Address

Request for a change of delivery address is subject to availability of vendors in the new area. You shall submit your request in writing, stating your reason(s) for the change of address, or via StarNewsstand.

Change of delivery address is subject to approval. Please note that the effective date can only be on the 1st of the following month. Kindly allow seven (7) working days upon receiving your application to process the change of delivery address before the 1st of the effective month.

Once your request is accepted, the delivery of the newspaper to the new address will take effect from the 1st day of the following month.

For example, if your request to change the delivery address is received before/on 20th June, the change will take effect from 1st July. Otherwise, if your request is received after 20th June, the change will take effect from 1st August.

Please be advised that you shall be charged RM50 administrative fees for the second changes of address onward. The first change of delivery address is free.

 

7.    Cancellation and Refund

7.1. Cancellation

Subscription fee paid is for the full duration of your subscription. No cancellation or early termination or changing of subscription package of The Star Bundle subscription is allowed.

For auto-renewal, there will be no refunds or cancellations after the card has been charged. To deactivate auto-renewal, please go to your StarNewsstand account and disable auto-renewal. After you have disabled auto-renewal, your subscription(s) will not be automatically renewed after the current one expires.

 

7.2. Refund

a) Refund is strictly prohibited save and except for scenario(s) as provided in Clause 7.2 (b) hereof.

b) Refund may be allowed at our sole discretion if:

i) we are unable to appoint a newspaper vendor to fulfill your subscription; or

ii) in exceptional circumstances which we will review on a case to case basis.

c) In the event of a refund pursuant to Clause 7.2 (b) (i), we will refund the full subscription fee.

d) In the event of a refund pursuant to Clause 7.2(b) (ii), the following shall be deducted from your subscription fee and the balance thereof will be refunded to you:

i) Total cover price of the newspapers delivered up to the termination date of your subscription; and

ii) An administrative charge of Ringgit Malaysia Fifty (RM50.00) only.

e)  You must return the unexpired delivery notes (if any) to us at your own cost and expenses to the address as provided in Clause 10 hereof in exchange for the refund. Proof of postage shall not constitute proof of receipt by us.

 

8.    Responsibility and Liability 

You agree that we are not responsible for any failure by us to perform our obligation to you in relation to your subscription where such failure is caused by circumstances beyond our reasonable control and that we shall not be liable for any loss suffered by you directly or indirectly, in relation to your subscription.

Your use of The Star ePaper shall also be governed by our service provider’s Terms of Use Agreement and Service Privacy Policy. In the event of any inconsistencies between PressReader’s Term of Use Policy and/or Service Privacy Policy with the Terms and Conditions contained herein, our Terms and Conditions shall prevail. 9.    Use and Disclosure of Personally Identifiable Information and Anonymous Information

By agreeing to the terms and conditions contained herein, you hereby allow Star Media Group to collect and process your Personal Data (as defined by Section 4 of the Personal Data Protection Act 2010). You also expressly agree for Star Media Group to share your name and address with Star Media Group’s appointed vendors/distributors for the purposes of delivering The Star Newspaper (Print) to you. You also hereby agree to receive the latest information about products, news and events updates, rewards and promotions, special privileges and initiatives from Star Media Group, its partners and advertisers.

The Star All-Access (3-in-1) is a subscription package consisting of The Star Bundle and The Star Digital Access.

Kuntum Subscription

Kuntum is a monthly Bahasa Malaysia edutainment magazine that helps children ages 6 - 12 years old expand their knowledge on a wide range of topics ranging from language to mathematics and science.

 

1. Subscription

When you purchase/subscribe Kuntum, you are making an offer to purchase/subscribe, which if accepted by us, will result in a binding contract. We reserve the right not to accept or process your purchase/subscription without reason.

We reserve the absolute right to review and vary the terms and conditions contained herein at any time and you will be notified accordingly of such review and variation.

 

1.1. Subscription Gift

If your purchase/subscription contains a gift, such gift will be delivered to your delivery address within two (2) months from the date of first delivery of Kuntum or such other longer delivery period as we deem fit and appropriate. You are obliged to take all reasonable steps to ensure the safety standards and the general appropriateness of the gift offered to you. You shall exercise due diligence and care when using the gift for yourself and/or any third party and to the extent permitted by laws, you shall release from and indemnify us against all liability, cost, loss and/or expenses arising out of your use of any of the gift including (but not limited to) loss of income, loss of opportunity, personal injury and damage to your property, whether direct or consequential or foreseeable, due to negligent act or omission or otherwise.

The gift is not exchangeable for cash consideration. In the event the gift is unavailable, we reserve the absolute discretion to substitute and/or replace the gift with any other product, which may be of equivalent value. We will not entertain any complaints as to the quality of the gift provided to you.

 

2. Availability

We reserve the right not to accept or process your purchase.  

 

3. Payment & Processing

We require five (5) working days to process your purchase/subscription. For delivery information, please refer to clause 5. For changes in any particulars of your purchase/subscription, please refer to clause 5.2.

To facilitate the subscription, you undertake to provide complete and accurate information required by us.

For subscription through StarNewsstand, you can pay by credit card, e-banking or e-wallet.

For subscription using the manual subscription form, you can pay by cash, credit card or cheque made payable to STAR MEDIA GROUP BERHAD.

The sale of the subscription is deemed completed and accepted once your subscription together with payment is successfully processed.

Upon successful processing of your subscription, we will notify you by email which will specify your subscription period (i.e. commencement date and expiry date) (“Subscription Notification”). For details of the subscription packages, please log in to StarNewsstand or call our Customer Service Hotline at 1 300 88 7827 (STAR).

 

4. Renewal

Your Kuntum subscription will not be automatically renewed. We will send you three (3) renewal reminders/notices by post or e-mail or SMS based on the contact information provided in the current subscription form, from 3 months, 2 months and 1 month prior to the expiration of your current subscription package. You may renew your Kuntum subscription via StarNewsstand.

 

4.1  Renewal Payment and Processing

You can renew your subscription through StarNewsstand or alternatively, you may request for a renewal form by sending an email to customerservice@thestar.com.my or call 1 300 88 7827 (STAR).

Refer to the provisions under Section 3 for payment and processing procedures.

 

4.2 Renewal Closing Dates

The cut-off date for Kuntum subscription is on the 20th day of every month. If we receive your subscription application and payment on or before the 20th day of a given month, your subscription will commence in the same month. If we receive your subscription application and payment after the 20th day of the given month, your subscription will only commence in the following month.

We reserve the absolute right to revise our pricing and/or to withdraw the renewal packages promotion at any time without further reference to you. 

 

5. Delivery

We shall endeavour to deliver your first (1st) Kuntum to you within ten (10) working days from the date of the Subscription Notification. Subsequent issue(s) of Kuntum will be delivered to you on or before the tenth (10th) working day to the delivery address provided by you, barring any unforeseen circumstances, force majeure events and/or any major public holidays.

For clarity, force majeure event shall include but not limited to acts of God, epidemic, pandemic, quarantines, fire, explosions, flood, earthquake or other natural disaster; interruption or failure of utility service including but not limited to electric power; act of sovereign, war, terrorism, invasion, insurrection, revolution or rebellion; organized labor activities such as strikes, lockouts or boycott;  change or imposition of any law or regulation or any directive from the government authority of Malaysia or any other event beyond our reasonable control. Where there is an event of force majeure, we will immediately notify you via email or SMS, giving full particulars of the event of force majeure and the reason(s) for the event of force majeure preventing us from printing and/or delivering Kuntum as scheduled.

5.2 Change of Delivery Address

Please contact our Customer Service Hotline 1 300 88 7827 (STAR) or email: customerservice@thestar.com.my in order to change any delivery particulars. We require one (1) month’s advance notice from you in order to ensure that there are no delivery interruptions.

 

5.3 Non-Receipt of Kuntum

It shall be deemed that Kuntum has been duly delivered to you if there is no report of any losses and/or damages within seven (7) days of the delivery date as per Clause 5.

In the case of damaged copy, kindly submit proof of damage. We shall replace Kuntum(s) that are lost and/or damaged due to shipment within two (2) weeks from the date of the report. 

 

6. Cancellations & Refunds

Should you wish to cancel your purchase/subscription, please contact our Customer Service Hotline 1 300 88 7827 (STAR) or email: customerservice@thestar.com.my. Notwithstanding anything stated to the contrary, no cancellation and/or refund will be entertained once your Kuntum for the particular month has been shipped to your delivery address.

 

7. Responsibility & Liability

You agree that we are not responsible for any failure to perform our obligation in relation to your subscription where such failure is caused by circumstances beyond our reasonable control and that we shall not be liable for any loss suffered by you directly or indirectly, in relation to your subscription.

These terms and conditions are governed by the applicable laws of Malaysia and you hereby agree to submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the Malaysian courts.
